WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, Senator Mike Braun, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator David Perdue, and Senator Tim Scott introduced a Senate resolution recognizing the contributions of essential workers with disabilities to keep America running during the COVID-19 pandemic, and thanking them for continuing to provide vital services to Americans during these difficult times.

This resolution comes as the United States commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and celebrates the vital contributions that Americans with disabilities or who are blind have made to our country and economy.

The resolution was supported by:

  • Source America
  • United Cerebral Palsy
  • ACCSES
  • National Industries for the Blind (NIB)
  • State Use Programs Associations, Inc (SUPRA)

“Essential workers across our country deserve our gratitude for keeping America moving during the coronavirus pandemic, and today I want to give special recognition to essential workers with disabilities or who are blind and thank them for their contributions to providing vital services.” – Senator Mike Braun

“The best of America always comes out during moments of crisis. It’s encouraging to see so many Georgians and Americans stepping up to help their neighbors, support their communities, and care for those in need. No virus will ever break the American spirit.” – Senator David Perdue

“I’m glad to join my colleagues in showing appreciation for essential workers, particularly those with disabilities, during the COVID–19 pandemic. In the midst of a crisis, these individuals have helped manufacture and deliver thousands of critical products that strengthen America’s ability to respond to the pandemic. They have supported hospitals, health care professionals, first responders, and the U.S. military, operated crisis hotlines and call centers, supported efforts to produce hundreds of thousands of cloth face masks, and so much more,” said Senator Murkowski. “These employees have played a pivotal role in fighting COVID-19. Today, and every day, we honor them.“

“Essential workers are the backbone of this nation, and we are extremely grateful for their service during this time,” said Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.). “I am especially thankful for those with disabilities – that may make them more vulnerable to the virus – who continue to serve in our communities. Their service during this time is honorable and I applaud them for continuing to show up.”
