New U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R) will serve on the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry Committee. Hoosier farmers will retain representation on that committee after Braun unseated Democrat Joe Donnelly in November’s election. Donnelly had previously served on the Ag Committee.

Braun has also been assigned to the following committees:

Committee on the Budget
Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions
Environment & Public Works Committee
Special Committee on Aging

In a release from his office, Braun said, “I am ready to get to work for Hoosiers fixing the broken system in Washington, and these committees provide a great opportunity to apply my real world experience to delivering solutions for Hoosiers. Agriculture will help me stand up for Hoosier farmers, Aging gives our seniors a voice in Washington, EPW provides an opportunity to tackle our crumbling infrastructure, HELP covers critical areas like workforce development and a chance to fix our broken healthcare system, and on Budget I will work to find solutions for our national debt and out-of-control spending that has been ignored for too long in Washington.”

Braun told Hoosier Ag Today in July that he’d love to be on the ag committee, saying, “I feel real good about understanding the issues, having a deep context of experience, and have said I’d love to be on the ag committee. That’s one area where I think I could walk on and probably do as good a job, if not better, than Joe Donnelly because I’m going to understand it from the context of a deep experience.”
